Home Sickness

Today I've felt it. For the first time since arriving. I've felt the way alot of people do when they migrate. Now it isn't family and friends I miss- well I do miss them ofcourse but they visit us alot! Which we are very fortunate that they can. Its just certain comforts when you feel a bit under the weather. Coming from the UK this time of year was cold, wet, windy, miserable and dark. But sometimes you wish you could just have one of those days. You know- where you can close the curtains, chuck the heating on, grab your duvet, a hot chocolate and as much junk food as possible and just binge watch netflix from the sofa all day. Familiar things that you've had all of your childhood and part of your adult life- sausage rolls from Greg's, Primark- cheap clothes and accessories, you go in for a browse and before you know it you're walking out £200 lighter with 6 huge paper bags with the handles snapping. It's only small things but when you were poorly as a kid you would always run for certain things- monster munch, cheese strings, scotch eggs, cornish pasties and cocktail sausages with a huge bowl of tomato ketchup for dipping. It's bizarre and it's hard to snap out of the feeling. Because life is so much better here. The climate- be it so hot right now I'm sweating in places I didn't know I could sweat. But the majority of the time, that sunshine beating down on your skin, the walks along the beach that is on your doorstep with an iced coffee in one hand and your dog yanking you to the sea in the other. The play parks, the freedom the kids have, the feeling of being safe. It's all just so positive. I know tomorrow I'll be my normal, quirky, slightly crazy self. This is just me being honest and putting some feelings out there. It's ok not to be OK. To feel certain ways. We are all human. Take a break, have a breather, take yourself to the beach- the sea air and sounds of waves crashing is good for the soul, have a little cry (or an ugly cry as I call it) its part of life. This migration stuff is hard! 2 years of setting up life all over again it takes alot out of you. Tomorrow is a new day.
